St. Philip’s School in Bemidji Honors Veterans at Special Breakfast

Ahead of Veterans Day this week, students at St. Philip’s Catholic School in Bemidji honored those who served the country at a ceremony held on Monday.

Students in grades K-8 had the opportunity to experience the importance of recognizing and thanking America’s veterans. Sixth grade students got to serve them muffins, and some veterans were gifted a special quilt for their service at the program.

“Last year or two years ago, we starting king of making it a bigger deal,” said Stacy Ness, St. Philip’s School Librarian. “Helen Ruth [Schuette] reached out to me with Quilts of Valor last year and so it kind of just got the ball rolling to make it something bigger and better.”

“Emphasis is on Veterans Day,” said Schuette. “This year it turned out to be a Saturday, so we are visiting different places, different schools, depending on when they’re holding their program.”

St. Philip’s students and staff have held Veterans Day programs for many years, and this was the second time Quilts of Valor were gifted to veterans.
