Lakeland PBS seeks an organized and technical Broadcast & Facilities Engineer to maintain its on-air television equipment and facilities to assure quality technical operation and performance.

Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Broadcast & Facilities Engineer is responsible for repairing, maintaining, and calibrating broadcast equipment. In this role, you will assist with installation and routine maintenance of broadcast equipment and systems, implement approved maintenance plans and procedures for equipment recommended by manufacturers, and maintain standard operating procedures. You will also be involved in the operation, maintenance, and installation of transmitter site equipment and systems including transmitters, STL equipment, and remote-control devices. This position requires you to be available on-call to assist with technical problems outside of normal business hours.

Duties also include assisting in the management, repair and maintenance of buildings and grounds owned or leased by LPTV.

Qualified candidates will demonstrate general knowledge of FCC rules and regulations, operate a broad range of video and audio equipment, automation systems, routing systems, power distribution, and related technologies. A two-year technical degree and five years of broadcast television experience is preferred, though an equivalent of experience in related fields and education will be considered.

Lakeland PBS is looking for a part-time Closed Caption Coordinator to work alongside our Technical Director for our 10:00 pm weeknight news broadcast from our Bemidji studios.

Duties include: assisting the Technical Director with minor production tasks, operating the teleprompter for on-air personalities during the newscast, and monitoring the closed captioning feed for any discrepancies or errors. Hours include two-hour shifts two to three times a week from 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM.

Experience is not needed, although a passion for live broadcasts and production is preferred. Excellent starting job for any college student interested in getting experience in the broadcast industry.

Location: Brainerd, MN

Lakeland PBS is looking for an experienced and dedicated Business Development Representative to be a part of our team based in Brainerd, MN. The Business Development Representative will be responsible for securing funders for Lakeland PBS services (TV, digital, and events) to meet revenue goals, and office management of our Brainerd based office/studio. This role will manage, develop, and grow funding from new and existing clients. This role will also assist with other development and marketing activities covering our north central Minnesota coverage area.

Ideal candidates will have a history of achieving revenue goals by developing new business and creating unique sponsorship and alternative funding opportunities as well as developing additional revenue from existing business. Enthusiasm for public broadcasting and the power of noncommercial media platforms is vital to the success of this position. This is a FT positionwith excellent benefits including generous PTO and paid life and disability insurance and flex plan that funds health insurance and retirement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Generate revenue through identifying and securing TV, digital, and event sales
  • Manage the Brainerd office including assisting with local staffing and coordinating facility
  • Manage a portfolio of underwriting and sponsorship clients
  • Research, identify and cultivate new sponsorship prospects
  • Cultivate positive client connections, as well as advertising agencies, to help create lasting relationships
  • Work with clients to produce underwriting credits and or web ads
  • Monitor accounts receivable and create plans for collections
  • Work closely with programming departments to ensure fulfillment of contracts
  • Assure compliance with FCC and organizations underwriting guidelines and copy standards that maintain a positive audience experience
  • Represent the station in the business community
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Education and Experience Requirements

  • A background in sales, fundraising, communications or related discipline preferred.

Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge

  • Have a passion for Lakeland PBS and public media.
  • Knowledge of marketing, advertising, and media sales. 
  • Good working knowledge of PCs, including Microsoft Word, Excel and ability to maintain a CRM.
  • Must be able to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines. Strong attention to detail with ability to analyze and resolve problems. Should be a self-starter and be able to work independently.
  • Must be able to professionally represent Lakeland PBS to sponsors and the public through outstanding written, oral, and personal communications skills. Must be personable, professional, and enjoy dealing with people.
  • Occasional evenings and weekends required; flexibility is a must. Occasional travel throughout sales region.
  • Should be able to lift boxes up to 25-30 pounds and needs manual dexterity for data entry duties.
  • Must exercise discretion with highly confidential and sensitive information.
