Sen. Tina Smith Voices Concerns Regarding Postal Issues in Minnesota

Democratic Senator Tina Smith has added her voice to those expressing concerns regarding postal issues in Minnesota.

Sen. Smith recently sent a letter to Postmaster General Louis DeJoy asking for answers about the United States Postal Service’s agreements with Amazon and the impact of those agreements on Minnesotans.

Recently, we brought you a story sharing the concerns of rural mail carriers in Bemidji, who picketed for several days because of those issues. The postal workers said they were picketing because of unfair working conditions for USPS employees and the supposed prioritization of third-party packages over essential items like bills and medication.

Sen. Smith told the Postmaster General in her letter that “[e]ntering into contracts that your system cannot support is a breach of [the Postal Service’s] responsibilities.” She joins Republican Congressman Pete Stauber in raising concerns about local postal issues.
