Gift For Mya
Tonight – a heartwarming moment for one family and a group of ice racers who stepped in with a lifelong gift.
Growing up, four-year-old Mya would watch her brother cycle in their yard, and cry hoping she could do the same.
Now, with a special tricycle she can, through the generosity of the Laporte Garfield Ice Racers.
Mya was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at a young age, doctors said she would’ve not been able to speak or walk, but she defeated the odds. Doctors also recommended biking to help build her muscles.
A custom-trike would cost nearly $8,000. For months, Mya’s family have raised funds but not nearly enough. Until two months ago, when the Garfield Ice Racers chipped in $4,900 in check – a gift that changed her life forever.
The non-profit group has never met Mya until today, when she cycled in with her new toy.
Mya’s mom, Angie Loveless, is overwhelmed with emotions. She says in only two weeks, she has seen Mya’s strength grow, and she can only imagine what the future holds for her daughter.
Watch for more.
