BSU Men’s Hockey Gets OT Win Over Ferris State in Game 1 of Mason Cup Playoffs

BSU men’s hockey coach Tom Serratore has been quoted as saying the regular season is a marathon, and the postseason is a sprint. Well, after winning that marathon with their first conference championship in seven years, the Beavers now shift gears for the sprint as one of the hottest teams in college hockey, going 7-0-1 over their last eight contests and hoping to carry that momentum into the Mason Cup playoffs this weekend.

Bemidji State hosted Ferris State on Friday in a best-of-three quarterfinal series – the Beavers went 3-1 against the Bulldogs during the regular season.

After trailing 2-1 after the first period, the Beavers tied it up in the second. Ferris State scored two more goals, but BSU, not afraid of playing from behind, tied the game at four to force overtime. BSU then scored just 36 seconds into the extra period thanks to an Eric Pohlkamp deflection off a Kyle Looft shot and took game one over Ferris State 5-4.

The Beavers have a chance to finish things off on Saturday at 6 p.m.
