Operation Sandwich Christmas Bagging
Operation Sandwich is a grassroots program that exists to end childhood hunger when free and reduced meals are not available through the school system. In the summers, the organization spends four days a week making simple bagged lunches for kids in need, and now, they have expanded it throughout the Christmas holiday.
With 42 percent of students on free and reduced lunch in the Brainerd school district, Operation Sandwich has expanded their services.
And here at the Grand View Lodge Gull Lake Center, employees have taken time out of their work day to help others in need for the holidays.
The program alone has evolved over three years, beginning with serving 1100 meals during the summer and this past they served over 4,000.
The team worked on putting bags full of foods such as mac and cheese, cereals, instant dinners, and numerous food items that can be easily made.
The Christmas bagging program expects to make over 220 bags this holiday season.
