MnDOT Announces Highway 70 East Of Highway 65 In Kanabec County Is Closes Due To Flooding
ST.CLOUD, Minn. – According to press release from the Minnesota Department of Transportation; Highway 70 is currently closed near the Rice Creek bridge, about four miles east of Highway 65 in Kanabec County, due to flooding. The road will remain closed until further notice.
Also, Highway 65 remains closed at the Ann River Bridge just south of Highway 23, south of Mora.
Many county and local roads are also closed in Kanabec County and other areas of central Minnesota, and water continues to rise in many areas.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation wants to remind motorists to be aware that every flood is dangerous. Six inches of water will reach the bottom of most passenger cars causing loss of control and possible stalling. A foot of water will float many vehicles. Two feet of rushing water can carry away most vehicles including sport utility vehicles and pick-ups.
When a road is closed it is illegal to drive around or remove cones, barrels or other barricades. Motorists can be fined up to $1,000 and/or 90 days in jail. In addition, if travelers need to be rescued from a closed road, or damage infrastructure, other expenses and penalties will apply.
