In Focus: Fab Lab
With new technology popping up daily, one local school has been taking advantage of popular inventions like 3D printers and laser cutters – all in their fabrication lab.
Through a grant by First Technologies organization, CNC devices like a laser cutter, plasma cutter, 3D printers, vinyl cutters are heavily used by Kelliher Public School’s art class and industrial tech students.
With this collaboration, students are able to first work on their ideas digitally, then transform them into a reality – especially for high school senior Alyssa Daken. Since being in these classes four years ago, she now has a side business in graphic design and hopes to make a career out of it.
The fab lab also provides industry standard programs like Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and MudBox, which was used in creating the movie Avatar.
Kelliher Public School’s fab lab is also open to the community.
