Kiwanis Park Vandals Charged
A Baxter and Minot teenager received over 100 hours community service recently.
In early July two teenagers destroyed multiple trees in Kiwanis Park and College Drive. At the Brainerd City Council meeting on Monday, it was reported that the teenagers had attended a Restorative Justice meeting where they accepted their consequences with a fine of $1,400 each and 140 hours community service.
Dennis Lamb of Baxter, reported that three of the destroyed trees were donated and planted by Harrison Elementary third and fourth graders last year. The students sold flower seed packets to pay for the trees.
Dennis wrote on Brainerd Dispatch in regards to the teenagers, “The trees were planted last May and now, because of you, they are gone.”
The teenagers have until June 30th, 2017 to fulfill their contract or the case will be returned to the court system. Failure to fulfill may also lead to felony charges for public destruction.
