In Business: Walker Bay Coffee Co. Aims to Be a Place for Tourists and Locals

Walker Bay Coffee Co. has been serving coffee for years, but their new owners have been pouring themselves into the community since re-opening their doors.

Hannah and Amit Weidenborner stepped into the ownership role around a year ago of the small coffee shop in Walker. One of only a handful in the city, Walker Bay Coffee Co. has been a place to stop by for a little caffeine kick for years.

“We’ve tried to maintain a really good quality of coffee. My family started roasting our coffee for us like a year into the business, so my dad does all of that. He gets like single origin beans, they’re all fair trade, locally roasted, and really high quality. So I’ve enjoyed feeling like I’ve brought like a higher quality of coffee to the area.”

Helping people and her community is something this business has helped Hannah achieve daily, while offering a warm and welcoming place to gather for locals and those who just pass through.

“[It’s] a place that we’ve come to love. When I say ‘we,’ I’m talking about some older gentleman in town here, in Walker, and we’ve been coming here for coffee for well over 10 years. Every morning at 7:30 until about 9:00, we have coffee. We discuss all the pressing issues of the world. We talk about fishing, we talk about hunting, we talk about sports. And the only thing we don’t talk about [is] religion and politics, but it’s a great place. And Hannah and her crew just do a wonderful job, make sure we always have enough coffee. We love their breakfast sandwiches. They’re great. And it’s just you feel like you’re at home when you’re here.”

For some, coffee may not be their “cup of tea”. But Walker Bay’s menu has a variety of items, ranging from coffee and tea to chai, and Lotus energy drinks. And while caffeinated drinks are a large part of their menu, it’s not limited to just drinks. They also offer an array of foods, from breakfast sandwiches to pastries.

“We’re very blessed to be here and very thankful for everyone who’s come and supported us as young business owners. Our parents, both Hannah and my parents, have just been a true blessing to us and supporting us through this journey, and all the many people who walk through our doors, whether it be friends, tourists, locals, it’s just been a great time to be a part of this community and to grow relationships with people.”
