Wreaths For The Fallen
A blanket of white, covered with a sea of green. That was the scene in Little Falls Saturday at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery as friends, family, and other community members laid wreaths on veteran’s graves in a National Remembrance ceremony. But after over 400 additional internments at the cemetery in the last year, Wreaths for the Fallen faced their biggest challenge yet; placing a wreath on every fallen veteran’s grave.
The event started in 2006 with a mere five handmade wreaths. It has since grown to over 3800, meaning they can honor every fallen veteran in the cemetery. Seven honor wreaths were hung to commemorate all branches of the military including those who were Prisoners of War or have gone missing in action. But for some it was more than honoring those who served; it was about remembering family.
