Women’s Shelter Marks 20 Years in Brainerd

For 36 years Mid-Minnesota Women’s Center has serviced Central Minnesota. Tonight they marked the 20th year of being in their current Brainerd facility. The center provides safety for women, children and their pets after domestic violence. And the event helped to educate the community of how they help those affected by domestic violence.
The women’s center says it’s important to have these events to remind the community that ugly things still happen too close to home.
The women’s center says they house hundreds of domestic violence victims annually, many staying for several days or longer. They provide food, clothing, daily supplies and counseling for their victims. Some of the event’s guests were surprised by how many people are affected by domestic violence and how much work Mid-Minnesota Women’s Center does in Brainerd.
The women’s center says 11 women, 2 men and 1 child have been killed this year in Minnesota and it’s important for us to end avoidable deaths.
