Winter Hazard Awareness Week Hit Central Minnesota

Fire and ice are the topics this week during Winter Hazard Awareness Week. Central Minnesota’s Sheriff and Fire Departments are reminding Minnesotans to get ready and be prepared for the winter months.
Just because your car might be able to handle snowy conditions better, roads still aren’t ideal. Wadena sheriffs say drivers need to take that into consideration when they travel.
Brainerd Fire Chief, Kevin Stunek, says just because it’s winter and cold does mean there’s less of a risk of fire. It just means there are other hazards to be aware of.
Chief Stunek says stove fires are the most common house fire in the area. And Wadena Emergency Manager Manderschied says you have enough food and fuel supplies in you home at all times to make sure if you get snowed in you have enough to get you through at least 72 hours.
