Winona LaDuke Visits League of Women Voters in Brainerd

The Enbridge oil company has been proposing to build a replacement to their Line three oil pipeline. The proposed route of the pipeline would go through some of the most pristine lakes in Northern Minnesota. Winona LaDuke and the Honor The Earth Organization have been battling the company in an effort to save Minnesota Natural Resources.

One of LaDuke main issues is that if a brand new line is built in Minnesota the old line will simply be abandoned and there are no regulations on deserting oil lines.

However according to Enbridge they say they will be responsible for the decommissioned line forever. They said they will remove the oil from the pipeline, clean the pipeline, physically disconnect the pipeline, segment the pipeline and continue to monitor it.

According to LaDuke Enbridge Corporation has had oil spills in the past.

LaDuke believes that the Enbridge Corporation should instead invest their money in renewable energy.
