A violent thunderstorm in the Lakes Area knocked out power for about 7,500 Crow Wing Power customers around 6am.
The severe weather ripped up numerous trees, caused water shortages, and tore the roof off an Baxter apartment building.
The people inside the building were not injured and were allowed to re-enter the building later in the day.
Central Lakes College in Brainerd and Staples closed after losing power and water.
Essentia Health closed six clinics in Brainerd, Baxter, and Pillager as the result of the power and water shortage.
Brainerd Public Utilities have experienced a drop in water pressure and have issued a precautionary boil order for their water customers.
Customers should continue boiling drinking and cooking water until further notice.
