Two Men Arrested for Multiple Charges after Fleeing from Deputies in Red Lake County

Two Minnesota men were arrested Saturday, March 23 for allegedly fleeing from a Red Lake County Sheriff’s deputy.

According to the news release, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an altercation in the parking lot of Cenex in Red Lake Falls at around 3 a.m. The sheriff’s office said a sheriff’s deputy spoke with a women who had blood on her face. According to the report, the woman said she was assaulted by her boyfriend, 35-year old Joe Johnson of Walker, who had left traveling south on Highway 32 with 22-year old Zach Grochow of Dassel.

According to the news release, the deputy activated his emergency lights and proceeded south of Highway 32. The deputy then noticed a southbound vehicle traveling at a high rate speed. The vehicle stopped on Highway 32 and then continued south again. The Sheriff’s Office said that the vehicle then pulled into a farm yard in Lake Pleasant Township.

According to the news release, Grochow exited the motor vehicle and ran on foot. The Sheriff’s office said the deputy apprehended Grochow and learned that he had dropped off Johnson off of Highway 32 and that Johnson had run into the woods.

Johnson was located inside an out building, according to the news release.

Johnson was arrested for third-degree burglary, fifth-degree domestic assault and fleeing on foot. Grochow was arrested for felony fleeing in a motor vehicle, fleeing on foot and reckless driving.

Johnson and Grochow were both transported to Tri-County Correctional Center.
