Thunderhawks Eye Second Straight Trip To State

Coming off their first state tournament trip since 2007, the Grand Rapids Boys Hockey team has only one goal on their mind heading in to this season. Beginning his second season as bench boss of the Thunderhawks, coach Trent Klatt says this group is already ahead of where they were last year. Which they say is a good thing, because after taking down 7-time defending Section 7AA champion Duluth East a season ago, the Thunderhawks will have the X on their back this time around.

There are still areas where they feel they need to improve. Which, after surrendering nearly three goals per game, mainly includes the defensive end. But with five of their top eight point scorers returning from a year ago, they feel like there’s nothing to stop them from making a repeat appearance at state.
