Thousands Cited During Seat Belt Campaign

More than 4,000 motorists received citations for not wearing seat belts as part of the Extra Seal Belt Campaign held Oct. 14-Oct. 30.

Sheriff deputies, police officers and troopers from 312 law enforcement agencies participated in the campaign. There were 4,351 seat belt citations and 166 child seat belt citations.

During the two week campaign there were 28 traffic fatalities and 19 of those killed were people in a vehicle.

This initiative is coordinated by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Office of Traffic Safety (DPS-OTS).

Minnesota law requires all motorists to buckle up if they’re in the front or back seat or be seated in the proper child restraint.

Unbelted drivers and passengers will be ticketed.
