Thief River Falls Robber Sentenced to 84 Months in Prison
The man who robbed a Thief River Falls gas station with a machete last summer was sentenced to 84 months in prison, with credit for nearly 260 days already served. Adrian Daniel Staples, 38, of Thief River Falls, was convicted of aggravated robbery; a charge of felon in possession of a firearm, found later at Staple’s home, was dismissed.
On July 7, 2015, Staples robbed Pennington Square and posted pictures of money and cigarettes on his Facebook profile about a half hour after the crime. He posted another picture the following day, which helped law enforcement narrow their search. A search warrant was issued and police found clothes at Staples’s apartment that matched the robber’s clothing caught on surveillance footage. Police also found packs of cigarettes and pantyhose similar to ones also captured on the surveillance footage.
