The Nature Conservancy Expands With New Land
The Nature Conservancy has purchased an old growth forest northwest of Minnesota’s George H. Crosby Manitou State Park from polar explorer Will Steger.
The land connects more than 4,600 acres of forestland in Lake County. This area of the undeveloped forestland is a part of the headwaters of the Manitou and Baptism rivers that flow into Lake Superior.
With the acquisition of the 240-acre property the Upper Manitou Forest Preserves has expanded its size to 2,450 acres.
The Upper Manitou Forest Preserve is open for different outdoor activities such as hiking, snowshoeing and wildlife watching.
