The Baxter City Council Discusses Franchise Fees

The Baxter City Council has been discussing Franchise Fees since two thousand thirteen. The fee would be a tax attached to the monthly energy bill. The money collected from that fee would cover the cost of asphalt sealing on city streets.

All developed properties would pay the tax. Through this tax Baxter is hoping to collect more than five hundred thousand dollars

Many business leaders are not happy with the tax increase.

The business community is hoping the council will consider taxing local business no more than twenty eight percent of the total project cost.
