Take Your Trash With You When You Move Your Ice House

Butts, fish bait, beer cans and boxes and wood blocks. They all have to be removed from the lake when ice fisherman leave for the season. Because if they’re not removed they could end up in the lake when the ice thaws. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is reminding ice fisherman to clean their mess before they leave.
The most common debris left behind include cigarette butts, wood blocks and bait. The DNR are out this week and pre-checking ice houses so they can figure out who left their trash behind when they’re gone next week.
But some local fishermen say, they hate when they see their fellow anglers leave trash behind, because they want to keep their lakes pristine.
Most clean up takes a couple of minutes and the DNR also suggests anglers to continue to police themselves so there’s less trash in the water come spring.
