Summer Camp Designing a Stronger Workforce

This may just look like kids having fun during the summer vacation. But it’s also a way Central Lakes College is preparing Brainerd Lakes Area kids for the possibility of a life in technical and engineering fields. With a growing demand for tech workers, CLC educators say it’s important to start them early.

This week Camp Invention campers are designing carts, paper towers and exploring how machines are put together. The councilors challenge the campers to earn bonuses, which will help them with their designs.

The one-week camp culminates with Friday’s inventors showcase where the young engineers can show off how they used donated supplies in their designs.

Camp Invention counselors hope the camps design will help plant the seed in the 1st through 6th grade campers that there are other alternatives after high school than just a four-year degree.
