One local health organization is making it easier for people to make healthy choices by only offering the healthy choice. Lakewood Health Systems has removed all sugar-sweetened beverages from its hospital, senior campus, and four health clinics.
Dietitians recommend consuming a maximum of 100 calories from added sugars every day.
The average person drinks 150 calories daily in beverages sweetened by sugar.
Drinking 24 ounces of soda every day for 30 days gives the body 5 lbs of sugar, which it will turn into about 2.25 lbs of fat.
The no sugar-sweetened beverage movement begins at the hospital, but Lakewood hopes the effect spreads through the community.
