Severe Weather and Flood Warning Continues
The National Weather Service reports scattered thunderstorms will spread across the Northland this afternoon and overnight. These storms will contain strong winds to 40 mph and periods of heavy rain.
Ongoing flooding is occurring across portions of East Central Minnesota and Northern Wisconsin.
The National Weather Service also reports a flood warning continues for the following rivers in Minnesota:
- Mississippi River at Aitkin affecting Aitkin and Crow Wing counties
- Mississippi River near Fort Ripley affecting Morrison and Crow Wing counties
- Snake River near Pine City affecting Pine County
Water levels are expected to continue rising during the next several days before beginning to recede. At 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, the Mississippi River at Aitkin’s flood stage was 13.7 feet. The river is forecasted to continue rising to near 15.0 feet by early Friday morning, and fall below flood stage Sunday before midnight.
At 15.0 feet, a few homes become surrounded by water in the Cedarbrook neighborhood near Eagle Road. The Aitkin city park was flooded.
There is a chance of thunderstorms over the area later this week and through this weekend, which could extend the period of flooding at these sites.
