Sebeka Trap Team Makes MSHSL State Clay Target Tourney for 3rd Time in 4 Years
As June flies by, so do clay pigeons through the skies of Minnesota. From June 9th-17th, over 350 schools competed in the Minnesota Trap Shooting Championship in the hopes of qualifying for the MSHSL State Tournament in Prior Lake.
The Sebeka trap team was one of 40 teams that made the cut, placing 27th at the championship. Sebeka will be returning to state tournament for the third time in four years, and during their last visit, the team finished 15th overall, leaving them plenty of room to shoot higher.
“I feel like the best seven guys that we got here shot amazing, and that we can do even better,” said senior Tegan Kempenich. “Our score that we got [in Alexandria] can easily [be] improved upon, but [I’m] looking forward to shoot down there. Hopefully shoot my best.”
“There’s very few factors that can limit your score, but your mental state is the highest one,” explained sophomore Cutler Ashman. “Last week I shot my personal best out of 100. Our team did really well. I mean, we made it to Prior, so that’s what the goal was.”
Sebeka won the Park Region Conference this season, also for the third time in four years. The state tournament is this Friday at the Minneapolis Gun Club in Prior Lake. Team competition begins at 9 a.m. followed by individual competition at 1 p.m.
