Schools Get Internet Speed Upgrade

A gigabit internet service is on the way to 15 northern Minnesota school districts.

The fiber optic service, called GigaZone by Paul Bunyan Communications, provides more bandwidth and faster speeds for internet surfing in the state. THe company is bringing the service to these schools at no additional charge.

Many of these schools have started with a new initiative: students are gaining access to personal laptops, which they’re able to use both in school and at home. A GigaZone connection could prove useful as bandwidth is occupied in a classroom full of these devices.

Laporte School has not yet activated the GigaZone service, but its administration plans to take part.
