Riverfront Supporters Hope to Reconnect with Mississippi Roots
In the 1800s Northern Pacific Railroad was forced to build a bridge over the Mississippi River. When they also built a train depot, they founded Brainerd. Now over 140 years later Brainerd Riverfront supporters are looking to reconnect Brainerd to its Mississippi River roots.
They group wants to create better access to the Mississippi River, a river walk, park and amphitheater and use art to connect the riverfront with the downtown area.
The riverfront supporters say Brainerd has to thing big and out of the box, even if that means moving the Brainerd Fire Department, to complete the two mile project.
The riverfront planners are hoping to have the state pay for half of the costs and say if this project is completed it’ll bring more business to Brainerd.
