Redby Water Line Breaks, Leaves Red Lake Without Water

UPDATE: All Red Lake schools are back in session Wednesday, a ‘boil water’ advisory remains in effect, schools are providing students with bottled water.

Schools closed, businesses shut – an overnight water outage has left much of the Red Lake area with no choice but to shut down.

A main water line in Redby broke, leaving many residents, businesses and schools without water Tuesday. The Red Lake School District and all government offices were closed during the outage.

The Red Lake Tribal Police sent out a text message to residents, advising them to boil their water due to discoloration and bacteria concerns. The advisory remains in effect until the Red Lake Sanitation Department confirms the water is safe for consumption through tests.

The shortage has also left residents flocking to Redby businesses.

City officials expect the water service to be back to normal tomorrow.
