Randall Residents Protest Potential Closure of Dr. S.G. Knight Elementary
Residents of Randall gathered together Friday night to protest the potential closing of Dr. S.G. Knight Elementary School. Cheers of “be cool, save our school” echoed through the streets of Randall as parents and students alike marched through the city.
The Little Falls School Board is considering closing the school due to budget shortcomings. Families with students who attend the school are worried about having to relocate their children, and how forcing them into larger classes will impact their learning.
“The school is being presented as though it’s a drain on the district resources when in fact it’s just overall issues that are going on, such as enrollment,” said Jessie Crosby, a mother of students who attend the school. “Some teachers are being cut. The school is potentially going to be closed, which should be last-resort options. But for some reason, it’s the only option the district wants to consider.”
According to a survey taken by the “Save Dr. Knight” group, 60% of families that have students currently attending the elementary school would send their kids to school in a new district if it were to close.
