Quicksand Teaches Sixth Graders

Corn starch and water don’t combine to make quicksand exactly, but the result is similar.

Non-Newtonian fluids can be solids or liquids, but it depends on how much pressure you put on them. Bemidji Middle School sixth graders had some fun with the concept this week, stepping across the material to see how it reacts.

The result was a fun and messy experience that taught everyone some engineering-based concepts.
