Politcal Attack Ads Play Major Role in Election Season

It’s election and season and that means having to watch and hear a lot of political attack ads. The increasing number of attack ads every year shows the candidates believe attack ads work. Central Lakes College political science professor, Steve Wenzel says negative ads have become so powerful they often help determine the outcome.
Since the Supreme Court People’s United decision that allowed campaign contribution to count as free speech, the airwaves have become flooded with political advertising. And most of those ads are attack ads.
A new Bloomberg poll found political partyism trumps racism in the United States. And these negative ads aren’t helping to reverse the polls findings.
Wenzel says if candidates produced truthful ads centered more around their issues rather than creating a negative slant against their opponent it would strengthen our democracy.
