The future of Brainerd’s Business Highway 371 was discussed this evening during a Minnesota Department of Transportation Open House.
Business 371 used to be the main highway through the Brainerd Lakes Area before the bypass was built. And MnDOT is starting to plan a project to reconstruct the aging highway to better serve the Brainerd Business corridor. And one of the first steps is getting the public’s opinion.
Business Hwy 371 is currently a five-lane highway. And the two options discussed tonight is: keeping it five lanes and narrowing those lanes to increase the size of the sidewalk or making the highway three lanes to double the size of the sidewalk and to add a four foot bike lane.
MnDOT urges the public to voice their opinion now because once they begin construction in 2017 it’ll be too late to make any changes.
