Over 500 Attend Tri-County Health Care’s Inaugural “Wellebrate” Event

Four-time Minnesota Lynx WNBA champion and University of Minnesota Women’s Basketball head coach Lindsay Whalen visited Wadena last night as a part of Tri-County Healthcare’s first annual event, Wellebrate.

“We’re really excited to be here today. We’ve been planning for Wellebrate for a really long time and we’re excited to showcase some of the things we’ve been working on over the winter and over the past couple of years,” said Miranda Haugrud, Tri-County Healthcare Care Integration Manager.

Wellebrate was put on in order to showcase the company’s new services as well as celebrate wellness in the Tri-County area.

“It’s just a great example of the outreach and the outpouring and the support that we have and to showcase all of the different services that we have available for you right here in your hometown,” added Theresa Mack, Tri-County Healthcare Inpatient Nurse Manager.

Some of the new services being offered at Tri-County Healthcare are smoking cessation classes and a new orthopedics program.

“Joint replacements and long-bone fracture care so folks who break their hip can now get that repaired in Wadena,” explained Medley Shamp, Tri-County Healthcare Orthopedic Program Coordinator.

“We’ve started a new program through the American Lung Association in collaboration with some funding through public health right here in Wadena County to offer these smoking cessation classes,” Haugrud said.

In addition to learning about the services provided at Tri-County Healthcare, attendees of Wellebrate were able to get their blood pressure checked, attend a CPR demonstration, and, of course, meet University of Minnesota Women’s Basketball Head Coach Lindsay Whalen.

Tri-County Healthcare felt it was important to host an event to demonstrate that cutting-edge healthcare services can be available even in a small-town setting.

“I think a lot of time our patients don’t know what services we have or how many services we have, so this is a great way for patients to come and learn about all the things that we can do right here at home,” added Shamp. “So they don’t have to travel outside of their communities.”

“You might not know that we offer cancer care services or chemotherapy at Tri-County. You may not know that we just started a new joint replacement program here at Tri-County,” said Mack. “So these are things that we want to share with you and let you know that we are here for you and we’re expanding and we are hearing what you need out there.”

Above all, Tri-County Healthcare was happy that Wellebrate brought the community together.

“It’s kind of cool to see everybody coming together,” Haugrud added. “It’s nice to see everybody doing this community even truly as a community.”

Wellebrate combined two events that were previously put on by Tri-County Healthcare, Men’s Night Out and Women’s Day Out. The event brought out over 500 people.
