Operation Sandwich Looks To Feed Students During Summer

For the third straight year community members are taking up the task of keeping hungry students fed during the summer. The program is called Operation Sandwich, and it’s as simple as it sounds.

But with 40% of Brainerd School District students receiving free or reduced price lunches, their task has become a little more complicated.Four days a week the sandwiches are made at First Lutheran Church in Brainerd and then distributed throughout the community. And volunteers say programs like these are a necessity. They’ll be offering the lunches four days a week at various locations throughout the community, and say their need for help is greater than ever.

For more information on Operation Sandwich, including lunch times and locations, as well as how to volunteer or donate, visit their website here.
