Officer Charged In Death Of Philando Castile
A Minnesota officer is charged with second-degree manslaughter in the death of a black man in St. Paul, Minnesota, according to the Associated Press.
Philando Castile was fatally shot by officer Jeronimo Yanez on July 6. The aftermath of the shooting was streamed on Facebook by Castile’s girlfriend. This is one of many police involved shootings that happened this year where a black man has been killed.
According to Ramsey County Attorney John Choi, Yanez fired seven shots into the vehicle with Castile, his girlfriend and her daughter.
Choi announced during a press conference that Yanez will appear in court on Friday and also faces two counts of reckless discharge of a firearm.
Second-degree manslaughter or involuntary manslaughter carries a maximum prison sentence of 10 years in Minnesota.
