Northwoods Adventure: Warm Weather Would Not Cancel the 2016 Minnesota Finlandia

Last years cancellation of Finlandia in Bemidji was a let down to skiers and Finalandia organizers who have been coming for years.

In it’s 34th year, it was about 45 degrees and sunny on Saturday limiting the trails offered, but not enough to cancel the races for that day.

The skiers continued to treck up hill and down hill, participating in five different races. The races offered included a 50k Marathon, 25k Skate, 25k Pursuit, 25k Classic, and Northwards tour all taking place around Buena Vista Ski Resort.

Just as expected around mid afternoon the sun was shining making conditions a little more difficult for the skiers.

Despite the weather, skiers still enjoyed the atmosphere and the people that venture to this event up north.

Skiers from the surrounding Minnesota cities, the Dakotas, Canada, and even Poland attended to continue the event’s international success that draws elite skiers from around the world.
