Northwoods Adventure – Spear Fishing on Mille Lacs Lake

If you travel to Mille Lacs Lake and were born after 1982 then you will see something you have never seen before in your life… spear fishing on the lake. For the first time in over 30 years the lake is open for spear fishing of northern pike. And businesses as well as the fishermen are happy about the season.

The DNR outlawed spearing of the fish after 1982 because of low numbers, but felt the population has bounced back enough to re-open the season. So far, spearing has been a success, with it dominating the early parts of this ice-fishing season.
