Northwoods Adventure – Minnesota’s Weird Winter

It’s not uncommon to have cold, almost subzero temperatures in a Minnesota winter. But 10 days of rain, along with stretches of temperatures near 40 degrees is a little out of the ordinary. This on-and-off again winter has had its effect on area businesses as well. Mount Ski Gull in Nisswa has been at the mercy of Mother Nature all year, from not being able to make snow to cover trails to not even being able to open.

But while the winter has been a not so friendly one for some, others say it’s totally normal and has actually helped business. This winter has proven to be good for Garrison Sports, where ice fishing remains their bread and butter. In fact for the first time in 28 years, spear fishing is allowed on Mille Lacs Lake, which has also only benefited the shore side company.

When all is said and done, this winter will either end up being great for businesses or hurt them in a major way.
