Northwoods Adventure: Kayak Trip for Veterans

It all started at Crosslake Dam where veterans from the Eagle’s Healing Nest gathered their kayaks to prepare for a trip down the Pine River.

The Nest provides assistance with the healing of the invisible wounds for service men and women who have experience psychological trauma. The group of veterans on the trip ranged from post 9/11 to the Vietnam era.

Crow Wing Kayaks is the supplier for the ride. After being approached by a Minnesota Wounded Warriors Coordinator about a motorcycle ride, owner Jim Bergquist knew he wanted to do more to give back.

The three hour paddle provides them part of the recreation experiences to remember what is was like before they went to war.

In its second year, Bergquist said he has heard nothing but positive feedback and he hopes he continue this trip for the interest of the local veterans.
