Northwoods Adventure: CLC Hosts First Pow Wow Since 1990

Central Lakes College hosted their first pow wow since 1990. Pow wows are a Native American tradition to bring people together to join in dancing, singing, and the celebration of their culture.

As the drums played, and the singing began, the dancers were welcomed by a grand entry to begin the pow wow hosted at CLC.

Bette Sam, a CLC alum, helped organizer CLC’s last pow-wow which was 25 years ago.

A variety of songs were played while dancers performed their inter-tribal dances inviting crowd members to join.

The event was to honor Native American Heritage Month and to showcase the Minnesota Humanities Center’s ‘Why Treaties Matter’ exhibit.

The event hopes to promote the college’s mission to educate on Native American traditions continue the pow wow for future years to come.
