Northwoods Adventure-Big Bird Count

Birders gathered at the Northland Arboretum in Brainerd in Mid-May as several migrating birds stopped by the Lakes Area. The birders counted 65 different species of birds, including multiple species never before seen at the Arb. About 20 birders searched for their feathered friends for about 4 hours, covering around 2 miles of ground. For those less adventurous, there was also the “big sit.” Participants had to stay in a 15 feet square for 12 hours. The sitters found about the same amount of birds as the walkers.
