Northwest Technical College Hosts Annual Health & Human Services Career Day

A career in health care or human services could lead to a multitude of different opportunities. Today, Northwest Technical College invited potential students to explore those opportunities with their annual Passport To The Future: Health and Human Services Career Day.

“We invite area high schools through our consortium to come here on campus and to experience what it’s like to be an NTC student, to work in health care career fields,” says Tia Miles, the admissions representative from NTC.

The students who attend the event have already showed an interest in the field. The day is meant to show them the many different routes they can go with their degree.

“For students to start thinking now about, maybe what they’re interested in but also things that they maybe don’t want to explore later, will definitely help them as they enter the working world or post-secondary education journey,” says Sarah Behrens, the coordinator of school and industry partnerships with NTC.

There was a total of five different breakout sessions that students got to participate in. They include dental assisting, nursing, childcare education, and medical coding.

“We also had a panel which was something new that we haven’t done before that brought some students as well as industry here to talk about their career paths and why they chose NTC,” says Behrens.

The students only spend a couple of hours with the NTC staff, but the team works hard to make sure it leaves an impact.

“It is really important to introduce students to not only health care careers but technical health care, because there are an abundance of opportunities in our community for these students to live and work here, give back to the community and to get a real high-quality education,” says Miles.

Next Wednesday, NTC will shift gears to highlight their other technical education programs. NTC Automotive and Building Trades Day starts at 10 in the morning on campus.
