Nisswa Man Killed In Jet Ski Crash Near Backus

A 39-year-old man was killed Sunday while operating a personal watercraft on Ponto Lake near Backus.

Jonathan Joseph Kub, 39, of Nisswa was pronounced dead at the scene when the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident at around 2:25 p.m.

The sheriff’s office reported Kub was wearing a life jacket when he fell of the jet ski. An autopsy is pending with the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Backus First Responders and North Ambulance assisted deputies on scene.

According to Kub’s obituary, he is a 1995 Brainerd High School and Wadena’s Northwestern Technical College graduate.

There will be a visitation for Kub on Thursday, July 28, 2016 from 4-6 PM at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM, Friday, July 29, 2016 at All Saints Catholic Church 16898 Carlson Lake Road Brainerd, MN. Family and friends are welcome to gather for a reception following Mass at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.
