With the arrival of the New Year, expect new scams and frauds to come about. So, one simple resolution everyone should make is to protect their identity. Most scams will come about via phone, email, or letter, and it’s important that people be skeptical of the offers they may receive.

It’s especially important to protect yourself around the holiday season, since many scams and fraudulent offers happen during this time. Protecting one’s personal information includes the regular monitoring of accounts, credit reports and using a secure password online.

Research from the AARP shows that the odds of falling victim to identity theft are now about one in eight, meaning it’s even more important now than ever to protect yourself.
