New Brainerd Fire Chief Assessing Station’s Needs

Brainerd Fire Depratments’s newest ladder truck is a 2007 model. And the fire department’s oldest truck was purchased when current fire chief was only 10 years old. And now Chief Tim Holmes says it’s time for the department to assess what they need.

Chief Holmes say the Brainerd Fire Department hasn’t really had a direct plan outlined for when equipment should be replaced and making that timeline is Chief Holmes primary objective to getting the station up-to-date.

Another obstacle the Brainerd Fire Department has to overcome is The City of Baxter is looking into whether they should build their own fire department. And Chief Holmes says Baxter a large contributor to their department.

Brainerd City Council president Gary Scheeler says Brainerd has about a quarter of a million dollar available this year for the fire department. And Chief Holmes says it’ll costs over one million dollars for a new ladder truck.
