MN Law Enforcement Steps Up Driving Enforcement During ‘100 Deadliest Days’

Minnesota law enforcement officers stepped up driving enforcement efforts this summer from Memorial Day to Labor Day for what is known as the “100 deadliest days.”

According to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety’s Office of Traffic Safety, officers handed out 46,624 speeding citations, 1,357 DWI arrests, and 178 Move Over citations during the campaign. Among the “lowlights” were the following citations and arrests:

  • A Nicollet County deputy cited a driver for speeding 90 mph in a 65 mph zone, and two hours later, the same driver was stopped for speeding 100 mph in a 65 mph zone, which led to an underage DWI.
  • Proctor police arrested a driver for DWI in August, making it his third DWI that month.
  • The Mounds View Police Department cited a driver for speeding at 145 mph.
  • The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office arrested a driver for DWI with a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.431, which is almost four times the legal limit.

From Memorial Day through Labor Day this year, preliminary figures show there were 110 fatalities, 29 of which were speed-related. That’s down compared to that same time period in 2024, where preliminary figures show there were 149 fatalities, 44 of which were speed-related.
