MN Executive Council Votes to Extend Walz’s Peacetime Emergency

As the deadline approaches for Minnesota lawmakers to pass the state’s $52 billion budget, the Minnesota Executive Council voted to extend Governor Tim Walz’s peacetime emergency for another 30 days.

This comes as the Governor called a special session to finalize the state’s two-year budget. The budget needs to be passed before July 1 in order to avoid a government shutdown.

While the GOP and DFL disagree on extending the Governor’s emergency powers, both would like to get the budget passed to continue the trend of getting back to normal.

Lawmakers met again today, and still the budget remains unpassed.
