Minnesota’s Largest Eastern Canadian Hemlock in Brainerd

Dr. Roland Kehr and his late wife Pat didn’t know the house they were moving into forty years ago came along with one of Minnesota’s largest Eastern Canadian Hemlocks.

Representatives from the Department of Natural Resources came to the Kehr residence last week to measure the exact dimensions.

This tree is a very rare find. In 2013 the DNR declared it as an endangered species.

With all the dimensions added up, this tree has a score of about 158. The previous tree which held the record since 1997 had a score of 123.
