Minnesota State Patrol Investigating Fatal Menagha Crash

Law enforcement officials have released the name of the Menagha man killed in a head-on collision Friday morning. Randall Lee Hinz, 66, died at the scene near Spirit Lake.

According to a Minnesota State Patrol Report, Hinz was driving in a car headed southbound on Highway 71 near 370th street. Around 9 AM, the car crossed the center line and hit a van in a sideswipe/head-on crash.

The van driven by Timothy Wade McKenna, 31 of New York Mills, went off the road into the ditch and struck a tree. Hinz’s vehicle came to a stop upright on the shoulder to the west.

McKenna was taken to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale with life-threatening injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt but the airbag did deploy.

Hinz was wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed as well.
